Why doesn’t anyone ever remember the other Reindeer’s names?
I was listening to my two sons talking the other night, Im not sure why they were talking about the reindeer but my younger son asked who was Blitzen? We all know Rudolf – and how the song goes – but rarely do we think of the others, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen.
Admittedly Rudolph was special, different from the others.
Watch it here….
As we know they all laughed and called him names! and they never let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games. All because Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose and if you ever saw him, you would even say it glows.
Then one foggy Christmas Eve Santa came to say,
“Rudolph with your nose so bright, won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?”
Santa suddenly realised Rudolph’s USP and how much he needed him. He was the only sensible choice with what he could offer. He may not have been as big or as strong but none of the other reindeer were any real competition when realising what he could offer.
The competition was literally in the dark!
He just hadn’t promoted himself well enough…
Of course when realising they would not have to creep along in the dark and thick fog, all the reindeer loved him as they shouted out with glee, Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, you’ll go down in history!
Rudolph obtained a new client and several excellent testimonials that night!
If Rudolph had understood his USP and how he could promote it, he could have cashed in much earlier to win clients and influence people, Santa would probably have then had to pay a premium for his services. Having the confidence to believe in yourself and really understand the value that you offer your Clients is the first essential step. Knowing how to market yourself and your business follows. Who to market to and who is your prime target audience and where to find them.
Advertising can be very successful if you choose the right places, marketing mailings, email marketing and social media are all very effective when designed for the right target market.
Creative design enables you to reach your clients in a memorable and interesting way which promotes engagement and then leads to new customers.
Rudolph’s shiny nose makes him stand out, he is remembered because of the way it glows. Advertising how his customers can benefit from his glowing nose educates and influences them and when the conditions deteriorate Rudolph is the one they call! Rudolph’s glowing nose is his symbol and feature but his USP is what he does – he lights the way and guides the sleigh in poor conditions. All part of his brand and a concept that really makes him stands out from any other reindeer.
Discovering and identifying your USP and then producing creative design to promote it is the first step in developing a brand that will sell your services.
Finding his USP enabled Rudolph to corner the market with his specialist services. Rudolph’s story also proves just how word of mouth and testimonials can really boost your reputation and even make history!
